Life as we know it

As a Forty Plusser I know that it’s on YOU how you live your life. You know, life is like a wave… a constant process of ups and downs. Each phase of your life is full of highs and lows. I often need to remind myself to NEVER LOSE HOPE! When you hit rock bottom and are at you lowest point… the only way the wave can go is… UPWARDS! Always remember that!

Am I wrong to say that the only thing that is certain in life is uncertainty? Life gives us plenty of opportunities, but don’t worry if you miss one, because you can wait for another opportunity and prepare for it. I sometimes struggle to live life with joy and eternal peace and happiness, but at least I try! Do you know what works for me? When I help other people I feel better about myself!

As we grow older we can easily lose that “sense of wonder” in life. Do you still remember that thrilling, exciting moments? Like…when you opened your first paycheck! Remember that time… You felt super dooper when you drove alone for the first time! That feeling when you graduated from college… falling in love for the first time… getting married… witnessed the birth of your child or accomplished something you didn’t think you could!

I am in my forties and I don’t feel so invincible as in my twenties anymore. There are days that I struggle to get a grip on life. You see, there is a cycle to everything in life. Not everything in life comes at the right time. How do you deal with change? Do you tend to embrace it, or do you resist the changes that life throws your way? Changes help to shape and transform your personality and also built character. There are moments in life that urge you to make pivotal decisions. There are also experiences that fundamentally change you… forever! But that’s okay, that’s life!

Note to myself: There will be moments in your life when things unfortunately just don’t work out as you expected. If you go through massive disappointment you may be filled with anger and anxiety. But then again, life will also bring you excitement, anticipation and a sense of purpose and direction. Up and down… like a wave… This natural circle and rhythm of life helps us to grow, learn and to better understand ourselves on deeply profound levels of awareness. Note to myself: Think… Imagine for a moment that you could develop new methods and habits of thinking where you naturally and effortlessly adopt these ideas into your life. A mind-change may also help you to feel better and more fulfilled.

“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring is coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize in life, you grow. You get better”. Steve Southerland

“I wonder if I’ll ever have to decide which is worse, life as we’re living or no life at all.” – Susan Beth Pfeffer

“Do people really realize how precious life is? I know I never did before. There was always time. There was always a future. Maybe because I don’t know anymore if there is a future, I’m grateful for the good things that have happened to me this year.”

Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honour our creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth”. Bradley Whitford
