Be nice!

As a Forty Plusser I NEED take stock of my life a lot.  It is a constant process of soul-searching.  One of the things I am guilty about and need to work on, is that I often treat strangers better than people closest to me.  I find myself treating the ones I love the most shabbily.   Why am I more compassionate and kind to friends and strangers?  Family members also deserve good treatment!

I think that it is actually sad to treat strangers better than the people we live with and love.  Ever noticed that you have least tolerance for the negative qualities of those with whom we spend the most time? I am not talking about “horrible”treatment, just random stuff.  In our home we have the usual stress and conflict situations like raising children, personal problems and normal daily challenges. We are just a normal family and there are moments where we feel misunderstood or not valued at all.  Yes, we do not always provide each other with positive feelings.

I personally think that we expect our loved ones to know what we need – without explaining ourselves (mind readers Lol!).  Also, when I have a million things to do I easily lose patience with people closest to me.  When I am busy I tend to snap and say unkind things.  I sometimes say things rudely instead of politely.

Home is a place where people don’t have to pretend.   We can’t maintain a fake image all the time at home and we show our real colors.   There are times that we get so fed up with each other that you want to give your children up for adoption(Lol!).  You are also so annoyed with your spouse…  Friends, strangers and work colleagues isn’t part of that crucial family circle.  Strangers don’t really worry about your shortcomings either.  They cannot see the “real us” within a short period of time.

So, yes.  I need to practise more patience!  My loved ones deserve the best treatment!

Wisdom: “Family is a unique gift that needs to be appreciated and treasured, even when they’re driving you crazy. As much as they make you mad, interrupt you, annoy you, curse at you, try to control you, these are the people who know you the best and who love you”. Jenna Morasca

  2. I think you speak for us all. Those close to us tend to get the raw deal when it comes to venting out frustrations.

Good points, all. What makes it sad is that there are so many young folks out there who believe being nice/kind is old fashioned. Sigh.
